Polydactyly

Polydacty is a genetic deformity where someone is born with an extra digit (finger or toe). Since the beginning of Meera having polydactyly was a bad omen. Other than the obvious differences (horns, wings, tail) demons are very similar looking to humans (and have been seen to mutiliate their bodies to pass as humans), save for a few minor features that give them an almost uncanny valley look. This includes, but is not limited to, eyes too wide open, legs too long, and too many digits. Sharing any qualities with a demon is a quick way to get falsely acused and tried for being a monster.

Lance Storm, like every other kid with polydactyly, had a hard life. Before Lance was king, an estimated 15% of the population carried the polydactyly allele, but 98% of them got surgery to remove it in infancy. In present day, an estimated 30% of the Meeran population has the polydactyly gene, with only 69% getting surgery to remove it.

Religion

Meerans believe there were 10 goddesses who each ruled over their own respective categories and created humans out of boredom. Qego, Vkoonojj, Pehtok, Woujh, Sec, Kuvo, Joqwqojj, Wekhano, giguyihc, and Xogiq. All the goddesses agreed they would never meddle with the others rulings. The story goes that Xogic, the tenth sister, turned her back on her sisters and began making deals with humans, intruding on the other's authority. She created non-humans as a way to exterminate humans. When the other nine sisters found out, they were furious. They banished her to earth where a little bit of her is said to reside in every non-human.

Language

Once a language spoken by the non-humans, now a dead language, remnants of Meeranese can be seen in religion and names.
